Cross Stitch

I've just started my first cross stitch as of mid-February 2026. My Grandma Joyce made a lot of cross stitches for me and the family when I was a baby. I also used to do those childrens plastic cross stitches when I was little. The main reason to get into it now is because I want to create my own seasonal and fandom home decor.

Kitten and gosling (16/FEB/26-Present)

pixelated image of a kitten and gosling amongst a path and bushesI've been itching to get into cross stitch and this is what I've decided to start with. It's a kit from LemonDM on etsy, so it comes with the pattern, all the thread, a needle, and a hoop. It's 50 x 39cm which I know is very big but it's cute! This is for me to learn all how to cross stitch and to cope with the stress of university. embroidery thread, a wooden hoop, and some cross stitch cloth with dark brown stitches The aida that comes with this project is very thick and so I haven't actually been able to insert it into the hoop. I'm hoping that its stiffness will mean it not being pulled taught will be fine.
I think I might've already made a mistake. Only after doing quite a few stitches have I started marking off on the pattern which ones I've completed. Because the pattern is in a booklet I think I've gotten confused as to where I am when I've turned the pages over. I'm planning to start filling in the surrounding with other colours until I get to where the mistake is. Also my stitches are so inconsistent, when I look at the back I freak out. I should really watch more yt videos on how to keep the back looking alright, but for a piece like this where there are so many one off stitches (as in not in a long row together) I feel like it's natural to have a funny looking back side.

Journals and Planners

Alongside my paper planners I use google calender. This is for long term and penciled-in events, as well as creating and seeing timetables.

Hobonichi Weeks

Currently my Hobonichi Weeks is my primary planner. In it I have all my to dos, events, and habit tracking on the weekly spread. Then in the back pages I have my traditional dear diary writing. Sometimes I'll add ephemera to both. I don't do enough diary writing to need any more than the 72 pages provided. I tried bullet journalling when I was in my early/mid teens but didn't really need a planner so didn't use them. Then in my first and second year and college I tried some simple layouts again and it stuck! In the summer of 2023 I used an A6 dotted notebook but laid it out like a Hobonichi weeks. This was really fun to capture all my travelling. Then I got myself a 2024 Weeks in my first year of university.
This is the Junji Ito Tomie Weeks. I use a Moomin pencil board as a ruler and current week bookmark. I currently have the left hand page divided in two. The left being for University work and the right being for all my other daily notes and to dos. In the left hand column of the right hand page I have my events, appointments, birthdays etc. The rest of the right hand page is for my trackers! I have my sleep, mood, and habits tracked. My habits can change from week to week but the layout stays the same.
