WATCHED: (Film) Women Talking - 2022 dir. Sarah Polley
This film is so powerful. I cried, I saw Ben Wishaw cry, it was great. The ferocity in each of the actors was intense. The debates between the women are so powerful, the grappling of faith, of the actions of men - men who are their fathers and brothers and sons, the unknown, the knowing that there is something deeply wrong with the power held over them. It was incredible. All the central cast were powerhouses.
I loved the way this was structured, I thinkk each point had enough time to breathe but they didn't labour in certain aspects of the debate (which I'm glad for as I think the length of the film was perfect and if they had I think it would've taken me out of the time pressure that was on them and the ability, or lack there of, of the women to explore these ideas). I really liked the narration. The music was great, it never felt overpowering, only in place to punctuate certain moments. The costuming and set were cool. I did get confused about when it was set, first thinking the 1600s, then the 1800s, then the 1960s, before being told it was in 2010, but that was just my ignorance. I don't want to go to much into the characters and plot as I think it needs to be watched and felt. I would absolutely recommend it.
